About Northwoods Tapping & Supplies LLC

Northwoods Tapping & Supplies LLC is a family-run maple business based in Owen, Wisconsin. Founded by brothers James Horning Jr. and Amos Lavern Horning, our company was built around a shared passion for maple production and a desire to serve the maple community with quality products, dependable service, and real-world experience. We proudly serve everyone from backyard hobbyists to large commercial producers.

Our History

Our story began with Amos Lavern’s early interest in tapping trees. He started tapping in 2020 using bags when he was just 14 years old, selling sap to a neighbor. Before long, backyard tapping supplies were being sold through the family’s appliance and hardware store, Northwoods Appliance Sales.

In 2024, we decided to take both the store and our own tapping operation to the next level by partnering together, putting in tubing under high vacuum, and becoming a dealer for H2O Innovations Leader maple products. In 2025, we built our store at James’s place, and we celebrated our grand opening on January 31, 2026.

We started this business because we saw a need in our area for a trustworthy, reliable maple dealer with competitive prices and practical help. We wanted local producers to have a source they could count on for products, advice, and service from people who truly understand the work.

As a dealer for H2O Innovations Leader products, we are proud to offer a well-known brand that has been trusted and proven by maple producers for years, including some of the biggest operations in the industry. Along with carrying the products producers need for maple syrup production, we also build some products of our own, including a unique tapping hammer, custom-size stainless steel flat pans, and round poly bag holders.
